Barcelona Nut Company was established in downtown Baltimore in 1924, making its debut as a pushcart along the cobblestone streets of Fells Point prior to having a brick and mortar store front.
The location changed a handful of times, but the storefront selling single serve packaged items eventually faded away in the 60’s to focus on mass production of roasted nuts and trail mixes, and the production of cotton candy.
Since then, Barcelona Nut Company has become one of the leading nut and trail mix manufacturers nationwide.
Under the brand name Stonehedge Farms, the Dover, Pennsylvania plant started manufacturing coated popcorn products with flavors such as Kettle Corn, Butterscotch, Caramel Corn, and Butter Toffee in 1998.
In 2005 Stonehedge Farms, in cooperation with Barcelona Foods, underwent a name change to become Popcorn Alley Inc. but kept the Stonehedge Farms brand intact. The corporate headquarters was relocated to Popcorn Alley in Dover, PA.
They began exporting to countries worldwide such as Japan, Korea, Singapore, Australia, Canada, Mexico, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and others.
Popcorn Alley Inc. was awarded the Agro Achievement Award in 2000, before winning the PA Governor’s Export Excellence Award in 2002.
The company has since expanded their flavor profiles to Buffalo Ranch, Orange Cream, Rainbow, and Cinnamon Bun, and are always experimenting with trendy new options, while keeping their original best-selling flavors available.
